This week on the podcast, we’re talking about feeding the baby. And, they eat A LOT. It’s at least every 3 hours and often more, especially at night (new babies often have their days and nights confused). This means that feeding your baby (or babies) dominates the 4th trimester, whether you’re nursing, bottle feeding with formula or pumped milk, or some combination of the 3.
Along with all of the feeding, there is so much feedback on the “best” way to feed your baby. While often well-meaning, this advice can be overwhelming, especially as a first-time parent. This can be especially true on social media where it seems like you have to pick a side: breastmilk v. formula and the side you choose somehow defines you as a parent.
This week, Christy shares an alternative perspective that she’s gained after feeding 4 babies: how you feed your baby is not a moral choice. Only you know what works best for you, your baby, and your family. She shares the feeding challenges she’s faced, what’s helped, why combo-feeding (a combination of breastmilk and formula) has worked best for her. And, she offers tips for how to talk about feeding choices with new parents in ways that are supportive and validating.
